LOHNRO four-year-old Mavro has broken through for his first career win with Kendrick Racing.
Formerly trained by Gerald Ryan, the Darby Racing-syndicated galloper relished a step up in distance, winning a Maiden (1500m) at a midweek Eagle Farm meeting on January 15.
Ridden by Damian Brown, Mavro ($2.70-fav) parked just off the speed in fourth, came around the leaders on the turn and put the result beyond doubt just after straightening.
He won by nearly a length to Magnetic Star ($16), with Alazani ($4.20) two lengths back in third.
"It was very pleasing to get a win on the board for Darby Racing and the owners, who sent him up to us,'' said trainer Stuart Kendrick.
"It is good to see the owners having the faith to send them up here and getting the results,'' he said.
"He's run third, fourth, second and now has a win from four starts up here."
Mavro was jumping in distance after finishing runner-up over 1200m at Ipswich last start.
"He showed today he likes that bit of an extra trip. He finished it off very strongly,'' Kendrick said.
"He might make a nice middle distance galloper."
Kendrick is hopeful Mavro can keep progressing after his breakthrough win.
"We'll just look at taking him through the grades,'' he said.
"We'll look for a good Class 1 mile for him."
